The Karma Wheel of DoFollow

Posted in Uncategorized on January 8th, 2010 by fubarrio

I guess it’s about time to do an official update to my original “DoFollow” post.

If you remember, at the time, my blog was a not just a virtual unknown, it was an actual unknown in the virtual world.

While ping-o-matic had alerted Google.com and the other search engines, who were paying attention, to its presence, they were barely giving it passing notice.

To wit: the pagerank was a whopping zero and an alexa rank of 26,374,163, and of course the only comment I had was from a concerned aunt who wanted to wish me luck on my ‘new venture’ — I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen an Alexa rank that high! :)

Since then I’ve got a google pagerank of 1 on the homepage (yippee skippy),  an Alexa rank in the 6 figures (just barely), and dozens of comments.  Heck, some of the comments were even relevant and topical! It’s certainly nothing to write home about, but we’re about to embark on step two of investigating the power of the dofollow karma wheel.

The DoFollow lists.

I’m going to (attempt to) post my blog on several of the DoFollow lists and see if it gets some more crazy dofollow link-love karma crazed Internet Marketeers to come and leave some topical comments behind which will lead the little search bots back to their own little corner of the Internet.

Heck, maybe even a couple of them will start following the results of this blog and decide to make the dofollow switch (eventually).  I’m guessing all it’ll take is time, patience, love….and results. :)

Wow really nice post!Go on and you will get great success. My wish is there always with you.

  2. Billige Solbriller Online Says:

I think you will reap a pay-off in the end. Karma is always good, also on the net. I am also wondering wether the dofollow, giving more comments of course, will also give more content to your site and improve your Google rankings in this way. What do you think?

  3. Local Services Expert - Janneth Says:

I dont think it gives you more content because dofollow links through comments only gives you link juice and you have to put the content yourself. However, dofollow really does impove your rankings if you have significant amount of them.

  4. fubarrio Says:

not sure what you mean janneth….unless you’re talking from the point of view of the commenter….as the commenter, you’re right. of course, it doesn’t increase your content….just your incoming link juice.

as the owner of the dofollow website, it doesn’t increase your incoming link juice. it just increases the amount of pointing to outside resources that you do.

what it does is attracts a bunch of people looking to improve their little website’s ranking though….so anyone who is in the business of providing seo services or just likes networking with others that do should consider it.

it also gives you the right to post comments on others’ do follow blogs and sites, imo

  5. liz Says:

Yes, it all take patience, time and perseverance, particularly the latter. But you’re on the right track to success it sounds like. Good luck with it ;-)

  7. Accident Claim Advice Says:

Dofollow blogs engage other people to actually read a blog and join in the discussions. I think having a dofollow site is a win-win situation for both the owner and the readers. They both benefit from it.

  8. Social Networking Software Says:

I’m currently considering changing our company blog to dofollow for many of the same reasons you’ve outlined here. However I’m still kind of hanging on to that “spam fear”. Have you noticed an uptick in you traffic? Would be interested in hearing your thoughts now that a month has passed since your post.

  10. Rick Says:

It surely helps to give do follow links on your blog. And like Vuxenleksaker said, if ppl get a do follow link on your blogs, they will come back. Anyway, you can remove spammers and let the relevant comments there!!! Great post!

Your rank in google or in any search engines, are worth. I know you did a good job on how to increase traffic to your site.

  13. articles Says:

It’s great to see that it’s working out for you. It seems like if you’re trying to get some interaction going on between you are readers, dofollow is a great way to provide a kind of incentive when it comes to leaving relevant feedback. Sure, you’ll still get those that will say “nice post” for every comment they leave, but you’re also going to benefit from those that leave real comments that add to the discussion.

  14. Wordwelding Says:

You have great content.. although dofollow I’m sure the popularity of your blog on search engines is very good.

  15. Carpet Pro Says:

I think the do follow strategy might contribute, Really interested in your experimental results.

  22. Jreilly Says:

There is a lot of back and forth about the benefits of do follow links on blogs. I appreciate the open experiment here, and cataloging the results for everyone to see.

  23. Linda@Affiliate Online Marketing Strategies Says:

Thanks fubarrio you’ve got a nice blog and I see that your do follow is paying off in your rankings. Reciprocal linking through do follow can help significantly.
Linking strategies are something that all marketers should focus on and also how to do it properly.

  24. Claim Free Bingo Says:

It’s no suprise why some people avoid ‘do following’ their blog. After all the internet is made of spam bots and spammers. Lots of people are looking for do follow links and it’s getting easier for people to find them. I always try my best to make some topical effort as a way of returning the favour of linking back. It’s interesting to see how many people DONT that’s what can turn it into a bad thing.

Nice topic. This article gives the light in which we can observe the reality. I agree with Liz. It takes time, patience and perseverance. Thanks

  29. Laura Wolf Says:

Hi, thanks for sharing. I do dofollow on my blog, but I need to approve first in case someone wants to be really “irrelevant”. Basically what Google looks at is how relevant your linking is, so I even approve pingbacks in case someone wants to pull my content in an inappropriate category.

  30. Luis Says:

The search for PR can cost you PR.
I downloaded the free version of a soft which finds dofollow blogs AND signed up for a free membership to receive weekly links to HIGH PR sites. RESULT = penalised by google.
    WATCH OUT.

  31. fubarrio Says:

    Luis,

only times i’ve seen people get penalized is when they are doing gimmicky things. because pr is such a lagging indicator, i truly doubt you could get your pr penalized…much less, even know it if you did….much less than that even, be able to narrow it down to a particular action, instance, or link even if you did.

in other words, i don’t ‘buy’ that downloading a piece of s/w is going to make a page hosted on a different (host) machine bleed pagerank. doesn’t pass the smell test.

  32. Asim Says:

yeah buddy same shit is happening to me
no comments on my my blog`
    but working to gain

  33. Mike Says:

Do follow blogs are good but i think in someway nofollow also pass some value…it may be very less %, but something is being passed as link

  34. Cake Rakeback Says:

This is great! I had no idea that dofollow blogging could be so effective in improving your pagerank or blog popularity. I am eager to learn more. You’ve found yourself a loyal reader, for sure.
    Thanks, Rake.

  35. fubarrio Says:

see folks…it’s really not that hard to get a dofollow comment approved. takes about 30 seconds to a minute to glance at the article and make a topical comment.

  36. Custom Software Says:

Really it is hard to find dofollow comment, Your information quite helps to everyone.
