The Karma Wheel of DoFollow
Posted in Uncategorized on January 8th, 2010 by fubarrioI guess it’s about time to do an official update to my original “DoFollow” post.
If you remember, at the time, my blog was a not just a virtual unknown, it was an actual unknown in the virtual world.
While ping-o-matic had alerted Google.com and the other search engines, who were paying attention, to its presence, they were barely giving it passing notice.
To wit: the pagerank was a whopping zero and an alexa rank of 26,374,163, and of course the only comment I had was from a concerned aunt who wanted to wish me luck on my ‘new venture’ — I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen an Alexa rank that high!
Since then I’ve got a google pagerank of 1 on the homepage (yippee skippy), an Alexa rank in the 6 figures (just barely), and dozens of comments. Heck, some of the comments were even relevant and topical! It’s certainly nothing to write home about, but we’re about to embark on step two of investigating the power of the dofollow karma wheel.
The DoFollow lists.
I’m going to (attempt to) post my blog on several of the DoFollow lists and see if it gets some more crazy dofollow link-love karma crazed Internet Marketeers to come and leave some topical comments behind which will lead the little search bots back to their own little corner of the Internet.
Heck, maybe even a couple of them will start following the results of this blog and decide to make the dofollow switch (eventually). I’m guessing all it’ll take is time, patience, love….and results.
Wow really nice post!Go on and you will get great success. My wish is there always with you.
I think you will reap a pay-off in the end. Karma is always good, also on the net. I am also wondering wether the dofollow, giving more comments of course, will also give more content to your site and improve your Google rankings in this way. What do you think?
I dont think it gives you more content because dofollow links through comments only gives you link juice and you have to put the content yourself. However, dofollow really does impove your rankings if you have significant amount of them.
not sure what you mean janneth….unless you’re talking from the point of view of the commenter….as the commenter, you’re right. of course, it doesn’t increase your content….just your incoming link juice.
as the owner of the dofollow website, it doesn’t increase your incoming link juice. it just increases the amount of pointing to outside resources that you do.
what it does is attracts a bunch of people looking to improve their little website’s ranking though….so anyone who is in the business of providing seo services or just likes networking with others that do should consider it.
it also gives you the right to post comments on others’ do follow blogs and sites, imo
Yes, it all take patience, time and perseverance, particularly the latter. But you’re on the right track to success it sounds like. Good luck with it
I think that your post is good for everyone who is intrested into valueable resources, Keep sharing the good work.
Dofollow blogs engage other people to actually read a blog and join in the discussions. I think having a dofollow site is a win-win situation for both the owner and the readers. They both benefit from it.
I’m currently considering changing our company blog to dofollow for many of the same reasons you’ve outlined here. However I’m still kind of hanging on to that “spam fear”. Have you noticed an uptick in you traffic? Would be interested in hearing your thoughts now that a month has passed since your post.
Great post!
do follow bloggs are great. I understand i some bloggs gets loads of spam its not nice at all.
U can easilly see if the post are good or just spam.
my bloggs ar also do follow because i am very happy when i found a good blogg with good nformation on it plus its a follow.
i dont mind if others benefits from mypage och blogg.
keep up the good work!
It surely helps to give do follow links on your blog. And like Vuxenleksaker said, if ppl get a do follow link on your blogs, they will come back. Anyway, you can remove spammers and let the relevant comments there!!! Great post!
I hope your experiment pans out. I know how tough it can be to drive traffic to a blog. Good luck!
Your rank in google or in any search engines, are worth. I know you did a good job on how to increase traffic to your site.
It’s great to see that it’s working out for you. It seems like if you’re trying to get some interaction going on between you are readers, dofollow is a great way to provide a kind of incentive when it comes to leaving relevant feedback. Sure, you’ll still get those that will say “nice post” for every comment they leave, but you’re also going to benefit from those that leave real comments that add to the discussion.
You have great content.. although dofollow I’m sure the popularity of your blog on search engines is very good.
So glad for the update It seems like do follow do work..
Thanks for post. Really usefull for me. I am bookmarking it, i like this blog
it would be great a directory like Dmoz only for comment in a spesific category so your backlink have more quality
Great article. Thanks for sharing. Thats how i came across this site was doing a search for Do Follow blogs and you were one of the first in google. Great job and keep posting.
Do follows improve your ranking… Nice post!
I think that your post is good for everyone who is intrested into valueable resources, Keep sharing the good work.
I saw your website from a do follow directory, And the PR stated on their website is 1, Now it seems you are getting better result. Really well done.
I think the do follow strategy might contribute, Really interested in your experimental results.
There is a lot of back and forth about the benefits of do follow links on blogs. I appreciate the open experiment here, and cataloging the results for everyone to see.
Thanks fubarrio you’ve got a nice blog and I see that your do follow is paying off in your rankings. Reciprocal linking through do follow can help significantly.
Linking strategies are something that all marketers should focus on and also how to do it properly.
It’s no suprise why some people avoid ‘do following’ their blog. After all the internet is made of spam bots and spammers. Lots of people are looking for do follow links and it’s getting easier for people to find them. I always try my best to make some topical effort as a way of returning the favour of linking back. It’s interesting to see how many people DONT that’s what can turn it into a bad thing.
Did I say earlier I liked your post? If I did not say I liked your post before, Here it is again, I liked your post

Do follow blogs are the next best thing for webmasters lookking for backlinks and as you have experienced it will actually do your blog good in the long run
I appreciate you having the do follow links, to tell you the truth it’s the only reason I’m on your blog
Nice topic. This article gives the light in which we can observe the reality. I agree with Liz. It takes time, patience and perseverance. Thanks
Hi, thanks for sharing. I do dofollow on my blog, but I need to approve first in case someone wants to be really “irrelevant”. Basically what Google looks at is how relevant your linking is, so I even approve pingbacks in case someone wants to pull my content in an inappropriate category.
The search for PR can cost you PR.
I downloaded the free version of a soft which finds dofollow blogs AND signed up for a free membership to receive weekly links to HIGH PR sites. RESULT = penalised by google.
WATCH OUT.
Luis,
only times i’ve seen people get penalized is when they are doing gimmicky things. because pr is such a lagging indicator, i truly doubt you could get your pr penalized…much less, even know it if you did….much less than that even, be able to narrow it down to a particular action, instance, or link even if you did.
in other words, i don’t ‘buy’ that downloading a piece of s/w is going to make a page hosted on a different (host) machine bleed pagerank. doesn’t pass the smell test.
yeah buddy same shit is happening to me
no comments on my my blog`
but working to gain
Do follow blogs are good but i think in someway nofollow also pass some value…it may be very less %, but something is being passed as link
This is great! I had no idea that dofollow blogging could be so effective in improving your pagerank or blog popularity. I am eager to learn more. You’ve found yourself a loyal reader, for sure.
Thanks, Rake.
see folks…it’s really not that hard to get a dofollow comment approved. takes about 30 seconds to a minute to glance at the article and make a topical comment.
Really it is hard to find dofollow comment, Your information quite helps to everyone.
Do follows improve your ranking… Nice post! Great article. Thanks for sharing.
I am eager to learn more. I appreciate you having the do follow links. Thanks for post. Really use full for me. Great work.
Well seen as i found your blog on a do follow list something must be working as i have really enjoyed reading you blog. I think being do follow will make a big difference to your traffic but will it help you from an SEO point. I have been working on improving the page rank of my wedding photography website for sometime but cant get it to move from PR 1 so putting a little link in my blog comments i hope will help.
Do-follow links are looking like cute babies that everybody would like them.
Interesting article, I am always interested in reading peoples views on various aspects of Search Engine Optimisation.
wow! that’s a very good idea!
for one thing, when you write unique article, it will inspire admiration to us readers, we can use your blogs to make references to other relevant content to widen the area of knowledge or discussion on the subject of our blog. And what i like most is that, the comments create back links for the commentators’ blogs. This kind of inter-commenting builds up an interactive community of bloggers on a particular niche or subject and a network of connecting links that are helpful for all the participants.
I honestly have no clue how the PR works, I had my domain for over 5 years now and still in a 2PR. I don’t really care any more.
It’s a good idea. Maybe you will lose PageRank, but you will increase traffic. Maybe I’ll allow dofollow links on my blog.
It seems as though for the most part, that you are indeed able to manipulate the organic results. However for users to return time and again to your site, surely the content and links need to be both relevant and authentic, otherwise it will discourage genuine blog enthusiasts from participating.
I had never thought about putting one of my blogs on a do follow list in order to improve my page rank and traffic. Thanks for sharing your results.

I think this still proves that good old fashioned SEO tactics still work. Im currently working on a project site called http://www.allincusivelinks.com We are hoping to make it the definitive “super multi directory”
A tip from me, keep content on your site that people want to go back to see and or allow people to have do-follow links on your blog. In some cases the only reason someone may find your blog is with the promise of a do follow link (or sometimes any link at all will do) but those are the people that just pop in and drop off the face of your blog forever. Keep the content interesting and you will have a dedicated visitor.
But kudos on your blog, congrats and good luck in the future with its growth!
This site seems to get a large ammount of visitors. How do you promote it? It gives a nice individual spin on things. I guess having something useful or substantial to give info on is the most important thing.
SEO is a pain and if you are a small company chances are you will be blown out of the water by big companies. I try to do my own SEO and it aint too bad but a lot of hard graft
I would have tp disagree, big companies have a lot of red tape and really dumb policies, a SMB can easily out rank a larger company IF they have a good SEO team to work with.
I’ll have to agree with Aaron on that point. You can do fairly well on a smaller site as long as you’re willing to accept the fact that targeting single word keywords is just not going to cut it.
You make it entertaining and you still take care of to keep it wise. I can not wait to read far more from you. This is really a great site.
